CAAM: China's auto vehicle output rises by 18.2 percent in May

In May, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 2.187 million units and 2.194 million units, respectively, up 18.2 percent and 14.5 percent year on year, while rising by 4.0 percent and 5.9 percent month on month, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). In the January-May period this year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 7.787 million units and 7.957 million units, respectively, down 24.1 percent and 22.6 percent year on year, due to the slump in the first quarter caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to CAAM, the demand which had been postponed by some consumers has been released quickly amid the resumption of production and construction, contributing to the rebounding trend seen in auto vehicle sales in May.

In May, passenger vehicle output and sales in China totaled 1.66 million units and 1.674 units, up 11.2 percent and 7.0 percent year on year, while rising by 4.5 percent and 8.9 percent month on month.

In the January-May period of the year, the passenger vehicle output and sales in China totaled 5.955 million units and 6.109 million units, respectively, down 29.1 percent and 27.4 percent year on year.

In the given month, commercial vehicle output and sales in China amounted to 527,000 units and 520,000 units, up 47.7 percent and 48.0 percent year on year. In the first five months of the year, commercial vehicle output and sales amounted to 1.832 million units and 1.848 million units, down 1.4 percent and 1.0 percent year on year.

In May, the production and sales of new energy vehicles came to 84,000 units and 82,000 units, down 25.8 percent and 23.5 percent, respectively, year on year. In the January-May period, the production and sales of new energy vehicles came to 295,000 units and 289,000 units, down 39.7 percent and 38.7 percent year on year, respectively.
