Buffalo opens its arms to Delaco Steel

A proposed warehouse/manufacturing operation in Buffalo, New York’s Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park has gained a key piece of municipal approval. The proposal, unanimously agreed upon by the Buffalo Planning Board, calls for the construction of a 155’000 square-foot plant for Delaco Steel. The $18 million plant would employ 66 once it begins operating at full capacity, which is expected to happen within two years. To entice Delaco, the Erie County Industrial Development Agency offered the steelmaker more than $500’000 in tax breaks. Delaco will use the plant to produce steel blanks for automakers like Ford Motor Co. Delaco’s Michigan plant currently supplies the steel blanks that Ford uses at its Woodlawn, New York plant. Once completed, Delaco’s Buffalo plant would be only four miles from Ford’s Woodlawn facility, eliminating the need to ship blanks from Michigan.
