Brazil's motor vehicle output down 49.17 percent in Jan-May

Brazil's motor vehicle output (excluding agricultural vehicles) in May this year fell by 84 percent year on year to 43,080 units, compared to 1,847 units in April, according to the Brazilian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Anfavea). The sharp month-on-month rise was mainly due to the resumption of operations after shutdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, in the January-May period this year, the country's motor vehicle output (excluding agricultural vehicles) declined by 49.17 percent year on year to 630,819 units.

New motor vehicle registrations (excluding agricultural vehicles) in Brazil totaled 62,190 units in May this year, increasing by 11.58 percent when compared to April and decreasing by 74.66 percent year on year. In the January-May period, the country's new motor vehicle registrations (excluding agricultural vehicles) fell by 37.69 percent year on year to 676,006 units.

Meanwhile, Brazil's motor vehicle exports in May (excluding agricultural vehicles) totaled 3,870 units, decreasing by 46.33 percent compared to the previous month and down 90.81 percent year on year. In the first five months of the current year, Brazil's motor vehicle exports totaled 100,080 units, down by 44 percent year on year.
