Brazil's national statistics agency (IBGE) has announced that in May this year industrial production in the country increased 0.8 percent compared to April and was up four percent from May last year.
In the first five months of this year, industrial production in Brazil was up by 0.5 percent on year-on-year basis.
According to the announcement, in the fifth month of this year the production of intermediate goods manufacturers in Brazil increased by 0.3 percent, output of capital goods rose by 3.5 percent, output of consumer goods grew by 1.3 percent, production of durable consumer goods moved up by 6.7 percent and output of semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.7 percent, all compared to the previous month.
In May this year, Brazil's metal products output increased by 2.2 percent and machine and equipment output rose by 23.1 percent, output of motor vehicles and trailers moved up by 19.3 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the January-May period this year, Brazil's machine and equipment output rose by 2.6 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers increased by 13 percent, both compared to the same period of 2016.
