Brazil’s flat steel exports down 67 percent in January

According to the statistics provided by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, in January this year Brazil's semi-finished iron and steel product exports amounted to 648,100 mt, rising 3.2 percent compared to January 2011. The revenue generated by these exports came to $392.4 million, up 16.6 percent from the year-ago figure.
 
Meanwhile, Brazil's flat steel exports in the first month of 2012 totaled 104,100 metric tons, falling by 66.9 percent year on year and down 42.2 percent from December 2011, with the revenue generated by these exports coming to $97.8 million, down 60.3 percent from the January 2011 level and down 38 percent month on month.
