Brazil’s crude steel output up 15.3 percent in November

According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), Brazilian crude steel production in November last year amounted to 3.03 million metric tons, with a 15.3 percent increase year on year. In the same month, Brazilian rolled steel output increased by 11.9 percent to 1.98 million metric tons compared to the same month of 2016. 

Meanwhile, Brazilian steelmakers produced 31.54 million metric tons of crude steel in the January-November period of last year, up 9.1 percent year on year. Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 20.65 million mt in the given period, up 5.8 percent year on year. 

Brazilian domestic steel sales increased by 6.7 percent year on year in November to 1.43 million metric tons, while domestic sales in the first eleven months of last year totaled 15.5 million metric tons, increasing by 1.4 percent year on year.

Brazil's exports of steel products in November amounted to 1.3 million metric tons, rising by 14.1 percent, with a value of $757 million, up 55.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Steel product exports in the January-November period of 2017 totaled 13.9 million mt, worth $7.2 billion, with an increase of 14.3 percent in volume and a rise of 42.9 percent in value compared to the same period of last year.

Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in November last year amounted to 166,000 metric tons, decreasing 27.2 percent, with a value of $177 million, up 2.9 percent, both year on year. Brazil’s total steel imports in the first eleven months of last year came to 2.2 million metric tons, representing a 30.1 percent increase in volume year on year, while the value of these imports in the given period totaled $2.06 billion, rising by 34.8 percent year on year.
