Brazilian federal police have indicted seven Vale workers and six TUV SUD employees, it said late last week. TUV SUD was the company attesting Vale’s Brumadinho dam stability.

The federal police said the indictment was part of its first probe, following the Brumadinho disaster, which killed 270 people in January this year.

Brazilian investigators said both Vale and TUV SUD workers used documents with fake information regarding the dam’s stability. Investigators said the documents with fake information allowed the dams to operate, despite their below-recommended safety indicators set by Vale.

Federal police said it is still investigating the tragedy. The Vale workers indicted were not part of the company’s executive board. Vale said it was aware of the indictment and will first review its content before issuing any comments on its merit.
