Brazilian pig iron exports up 27 percent in Jan-May

In the January-May period this year, Brazilian pig iron exports totaled 1.254 million mt, up 27 percent year on year, according to the official statistics.

However, in May alone, Brazilian pig iron exports decreased by 33 percent year on year and 53 percent month on month, respectively. The key destinations in the period in question were the US and China accounting for 49.5 percent and 20.75 percent shares of the total exports, respectively. The majority of the volume or namely 108,446 mt originated from southeastern producers based in Minas Gerais, SteelOrbis has learned.
