Brazilian machinery and equipment sales decline in February

Sales of industrial machinery and equipment in Brazil declined 7.8 percent in February to BRL 21.76 billion ($4.2 billion), when compared to February 2022, according to the sector association ABIMAQ.

ABIMAQ added that in February the sector had a recovery of 2.7 percentage points from January of the utilization rate of its production capacity, reaching 77.6 percent, which despite the recovery, remains below the average level of 2022, 79.2 percent.

The total of workers in the sector increased by 0.5 percent in February from January to 394,000 workers, reflecting more workers hired by the producers of machinery and equipment that serve the consumers goods, civil construction and infrastructure industries.

During the first two months of 2023, exports of machinery for logistics and civil construction increased on yearly basis by 39.2 percent, while exports to the industry of capital goods increased by 33.5 percent.
