Brazilian flat steel distributor sales down in August

Flat steel distributor sales in Brazil declined in August 6.4 percent, year-on-year, and 2.8 percent, month-on-month, to 280,000 mt, according to the local flat steel distributors association (Inda).

Purchases of flat steel by domestic distributors in August reached 279,700 mt, 6.8 percent down, year-on-year, but 1.1 percent up, month-on-month.

Local flat steel inventory in August was stable at 762,500 mt. Inventory turnover in August increased to 2.7 months, from 2.6 months in July this year.

Brazilian flat steel imports in August decreased 9.5 percent, year-on-year, and 7.6 percent, month-on-month, to 89,800 mt.

Inda estimated that both the sales and purchases of flat steel by local distributors in September will remain stable compared to August.
