Brazilian crude steel output in April rose 59.3 percent, year-over-year, to 3.1 million mt, according to a report from the Brazilian steel association, IABr.
Domestic steel sales in April increased 96.1 percent, year-over-year, to 1.9 million mt, while apparent steel consumption in the same period grew 95.7 percent, year-over-year, to 2.2 million mt.
Brazilian exports of steel in April totaled 832,000 mt in volume, 5.5 percent down, year-over-year, and $657 million in value, 36.9 percent up, year-over-year.
Brazilian imports of steel in April reached 356,000 mt in volume, 90.8 percent up, year-over-year, and $343 million in value, 85.4 percent up, also on a year-over-year basis.
As for the accumulated period of January to April, Brazilian crude steel production improved 15.9 percent, year-over-year, to 11.8 million mt.
Domestic sales in the January-April period increased 40.5 percent, year-over-year, to 7.9 million mt. Apparent steel consumption in the January-April period totaled 9 million mt, 43.7 percent up, year-over-year.
Brazilian imports of steel in January-April reached 1.4 million mt in volume, 99.1 percent up, year-over-year. Brazilian imports of steel in the same period totaled $1.3 billion in value, 69.8 percent up, year-over-year.
In terms of volume, Brazilian exports of steel in the January-April period dropped 13.9 percent, year-over-year, to 3.5 million mt. The value of Brazilian exports of steel in this period rose 14.4 percent, year-over-year, to $2.4 billion.
