Brazilian crude steel output increases 2.3 percent in January

Brazilian crude steel output rose 2.3 percent in January, year-on-year, to 2.9 million mt, according to a report from local steel association, IABr.

Brazilian domestic steel sales in the first month of the year reached 1.4 million mt, 3.7 percent down, year-on-year. Apparent steel consumption in January was 1.5 million mt, 5.6 percent down, year-on-year.

Brazilian steel imports in January totaled 177,000 mt and $212 million in value, 18.4 percent down, year-on-year, in terms of volumes, and 12 percent down, year-on-year, in terms of value.

IABr did not release export figures due to a change in Brazil’s foreign trade data metrics, IABr said.
