Brazilian crude steel output down 5.4 percent in January-August

Brazilian crude steel production in August dropped 13.4 percent year on year to 2.5 million mt, according to local steel association, IABr.

Meanwhile, Brazilian domestic steel sales in August decreased 7.2 percent year on year to 1.6 million mt. Apparent steel consumption in August was 1.8 million mt, down 7.5 percent year on year.

Brazilian steel imports in August reached 250,000 mt in volume and $231 million in value, up 1.6 percent and down eight percent, year on year, respectively. Brazilian steel exports in August totaled 891,000 mt, up 48 percent, year on year. In terms of value, Brazilian steel exports in August increased 7.6 percent year on year, to $525 million.

As for the accumulated period of January to August, Brazilian crude steel output was 22.2 million mt, down 5.4 percent year on year. Domestic sales in the eight-month period reached 12.4 million mt, declining by 1.5 percent year on year. Apparent steel consumption in the January-August period declined 2.3 percent year on year to 13.9 million mt.
