Brazilian crude steel output declines in July

Brazilian crude steel production in July dropped 20.6 percent, year-on-year, to 2.4 million mt, according to local steel association, IABr.

Meanwhile, Brazilian domestic steel sales in July decreased 6.9 percent, year-on-year, to 1.6 million mt. Apparent steel consumption in July was 1.8 million mt, 7.1 percent down, year-on-year.

Brazilian steel imports in July reached 201,000 mt in volume and $220 million in value, 6.9 percent and 8.3 percent down, year-on-year, respectively. Brazilian steel exports in July totaled 865,000 mt, 28.9 percent down, year-on-year. In terms of value, Brazilian steel exports in July decreased 3.8 percent, year-on-year, to $539 million.

As for the accumulated period of January to July, Brazilian crude steel output was 19.7 million mt, 4.3 percent down, year-on-year. Domestic sales in the seven-month period reached 10.7 million mt, 0.5 percent down, year-on-year. Apparent steel consumption in the January-July period declined 1.5 percent, year-on-year, to 12.1 million mt.
