An environmental regulator, Condema, in Vitoria, Brazil, decided to maintain a BRL 34.2 million fine imposed to local steelmaker ArcelorMittal Tubarão in 2016, SteelOrbis has learned.

ArcelorMittal Tubarão is a flats steelmaking complex owned by ArcelorMittal Brazil, which produces slab, HRC, CRC, hot-dipped steel, among other products. It has a 7.5 million mt/year capacity.

The Condema fine was imposed in 2016, as reported by SteelOrbis, due to air and sea pollution at ArcelorMittal Brazil’s Tubarao port, which was shut down for a short period at the time. ArcelorMittal Tubarão had appealed the 2016 decision, but the Vitoria city environmental regulator ruled this week to maintain the fine.
