According to figures released by the Brazilian foreign trade ministry, MDIC, Brazil has exported 229,641 mt of pig iron in September 2017 compared to 201,834 in September 2016. This is an increase of 13.8 percent. The US was the country’s largest export destination for pig iron, but in September Brazilian exports to the US declined by 4.4 percent with shipments of 122,362 mt compared to 127,985 in the same month a year ago. The increase in September exports is attributed to additional demand from European destinations. The September increase comes after a sharp drop in export shipments in August 2017.
Comparing the nine-month period total against last year, Brazil has exported almost the same amount year-on-year with only a slight drop of 2 percent.
