Brazil civil construction activity increases in May

Brazilian civil construction activity in May rose to 44.4 points from 44.1 points in May last year, in a scale from zero to 100, in which values above 50 show growth, according to the country’s confederation of industries (CNI).

Despite the year-on-year increase, CNI said local construction activity in May declined from 46.9 points in April this year.

CNI’s data showed the industry’s capacity utilization in May improved to 57 percent, from 55 percent in May 2017, but fell from 60 percent in April this year.

The indicator that measures the number of job positions in the Brazilian civil construction sector increased to 44.3 points in May from 42.7 points in May 2017, but remained stable, on a month-on-month analysis from 44.6 points in April this year.
