Brazil, China in talks to expand bilateral trade

A Chinese delegation visited Brazil’s ministry of industry, foreign trade and services, MDIC, to discuss the two countries’ bilateral trade agenda for the 2018-2019 period.

MDIC said officials discussed Brazil’s investment agenda for the local industrial segment, the proposed investments from the two countries, as well as expected meetings for 2019, when Brazil should take the presidency of the BRIC group, made up of Brazil, Russia, India and China.

According to MDIC, China is Brazil’s main trade partner. Brazil exported $47 billion in goods to China and imported $27 billion. According to MDIC data, Brazil’s exports to China in the accumulated period of January to July this year reached $36 billion.

Brazil is a major exporter of iron ore to China through miner Vale. According to data from MDIC, Brazil exported a combined $6.8 billion in iron ore to China in the accumulated period of January to August this year, including iron ores and concentrates as well as iron ore agglomerates by pelletizing process.
