Borcelik to make plant investment for automotive industry

According to latest reports from the industry, Turkish flat steel producer Borcelik's investment for the ongoing construction of its hot dipped galvanizing plant with a capacity of 350'000mt, to commence operation by November 2003, is expected to be mainly oriented to the automotive industry. This anticipation is based on two facts. Initially, demand in commercial grade galvanized market is met by Tezcan's and Turkish integrated flats mill Erdemir's investments, together with Assan and Tezcan's current tonnage levels. Secondly, European steel maker Arcelor, in accordance with its global plans, is willing to form a strategic partnership with Borcelik to actualize a galvanizing line investment for the automotive industry. In consequence of this partnership, production of “extragal” steel sheet in coil which is a trademark of Arcelor will be commenced with Borcelik's hot dipped galvanizing plant investment.
