BMZ’s steel output declines by 1.6 percent in January-July

In January-July 2010, Byelorussian Iron and Steel Works (BMZ) registered a 1.6 percent decrease year on year in its crude steel output to 1.467 million mt.

Accordingly, during the period in question BMZ's rolled steel product output went down by 6.5 percent year on year to 1.17 million mt, while its pipe production increased by 2.1 times year on year to 54,800 mt. The plant also produced 52,300 mt of metal cord - up 25.6 percent, and 112,600 mt of steel wire - up 1.6 times, both compared to January-July 2009.

Meanwhile, in the first seven months of this year BMZ's sales of rolled steel products went down by 19.1 percent to 787,400 mt, while sales of pipes increased by 2.3 times to 58,300 mt, both compared to the same period last year. The plant also sold 53,900 mt of metal cord - up 1.5 times, and 113,500 mt of steel wire - up 1.7 times, both compared to January-July 2009.
 
In January-July, BMZ increased its export sales by 22.6 percent year on year to $628.2 million. Of BMZ's overall sales, the share of exports amounted to about 85 percent, with more than 70 percent of export supplies being to non-CIS countries.
