BlueScope to leave export tinplate market

According to the statement released by Australian firm BlueScope Steel, the company is planning to withdraw from the export tinplate market as of mid-2005. The company officials stated that despite the improvements in tinplate market, export tinplate is not profitable for BlueScope. As the company withdraws from export tinplate market, 250'000 tons of hot rolled coils will be available for other markets. Meanwhile, the company is planning to increase the production capacity of Hot Strip Mill by 400'000 tons.
