Billet/slab export at Tianjin port decreased largely

China's Tianjin port saw a decline in its billet and slab exports lately due to the governmental measures. China's central government stopped export rebate on some primary steel products and cancelled the 13% export rebate on billet/slab steel ingot as of April 01, 2005. According to the statistical data from Tianjin port, billet/slab export at Tianjin port came out as around 620'000 tons in May, marking the lowest monthly export level in 2005 so far. Most of the billet/slab departing from Tianjin port was destined to Indonesia, Thailand and South Korea. The 48.7% of the total billet/slab exports consisted of the formerly stocked quantities in the port which were brought there before the regulation was enacted. Therefore, export decrease extent may be larger at Tianjin port in the future.
