According to customs data, the Philippines imported 0.85 million mt of billet in the first seven months of 2017. In the first seven months of 2018, the Philippines imported 1.89 million mt of billet, up 122 percent compared to the same period the previous year. A source noted that factors such as US tariffs, attractive Turkish offers, and overall “attractively priced” billet into the region helped fuel the surge in billet imports into the Philippines.
