According to a recent press release by Tata Steel, it is planning to increase production by 14-15 percent at its recently acquired Bhushan Steel’s Odisha plant by March 2019. The site has a capacity of 5 million mt but is currently operating only at 3.5 million mt. The move to add 0.5 million mt is attributed to robust regional demand. The 1 million mt remaining capacity may be utilized over the next two years.

Tata Steel's Kalinganagar facility where it has a 3 MT capacity is located relatively near the Bhushan site and is also presently being expanded. The release also noted that Tata Steel is lifting Bhushan Steel’s safety and environment procedures and standards and is investing in improved technology-based solutions.
