BHP Steel establishes a new facility in Vietnam

In line with the strategy of expanding its downstream value added product business, particularly in Asia, largest Australian steelmaker BHP Steel Ltd announced that it will establish a flat steel metallic coating and painting facility at south east of Ho Chi Minh City with a capital investment of around A$160 million ($106 million) following the approval from Vietnamese Government. This new facility, expected to commence production by early 2006, will have a total production capacity of around 175'000 tons per annum, 125'000 tons of which will be metallic coated and balance painted flat steel product. Output will be supplied to the rapidly growing construction and manufacturing industries of Vietnam.
