BHP: HBI operation starts in July

In April 2002, BHP had to declare force majeur due to some problems in the hot briquetted iron production lines of the plant. Officials explain that they are currently in a recovery process and are planning to resume operations next month at full speed in order to try keep up the target. BHP Billiton has a Mining Area C iron ore project worth $1.2 billion jointly with Pohang Iron and Steel (Posco). It is emphasized that the project is not effected by this failure and the production is planned to begin by the end of 2003.
