Baosteel’s heavy plate mill commissioned

Germany's SMS Demag, together with its customer Baosteel Iron and Steel Co Ltd commissioned the newly erected a heavy plate mill six weeks a head of schedule, SMS Demag sources reported. The heavy plate mill will produce plates with thickness ranging between 5 mm to 150 mm, widths from 900 mm to 4900 mm and lengths between 3 and 52 m. The products of the mill will be used in shipbuilding and construction sectors. The capacity of the mill, which will be 1.4 million tons in the first phase, will be increased to 1.8 million tons in the second phase.
