According to the Bangladesh Ministry of Commerce, Bangladesh more than doubled its ferrous scrap imports between 2015 and 2016. The January-September scrap import data is pointing to an annualized total in 2017 close to that imported in 2016, although, potentially a higher percentage imported via bulk. The iron and steel import category was Bangladesh’s fourth largest at $2 billion (5 percent share of all imports) in 2016.

According to US Census data, the US shipped 508,183 mt of ferrous scrap to Bangladesh during the January-September period in 2017, an amount 124.4 percent higher than in the same period in 2016 when it shipped 408,507 mt.
