Azerbaijani steel producer Baku Steel Company has temporarily stopped all operations due to the shortage of raw materials. The company's spokesperson Mr. Namig Ahmedov stated that the plant needs approximately 1,200-1,500 metric tons of scrap daily to sustain its production. Mr. Ahmedov also added that the temporarily stoppage of the plant will lead to an increase in domestic rebar prices. Baku Steel Company produces 350,000 metric tons of rebar and billets annually. The company satisfies 90 percent of Azerbaijan's rebar needs. The Azerbaijani steelmaker has also asked the country's government to help it in finding a solution to the raw material shortage.
