Avesta Polarit completed the expansion

The Finnish stainless steel maker Avesta Polarit has completed the three-year phase of investment project for modernization at its Tornio Works, Finland. The project costed approximately EUR 1 billion and doubled the capacity of Avesta Polarit's steelmaking and rolling capacity. The project was including a steel meltshop, expansion of hot rolling facilities and a cold rolling plant. Avesta Polarit's new steel meltshop was commissioned in August last year has an annual production capacity of 1 million tons. This meltshop increased the annual capacity at Tornio Works to 1.65 million tons. The new cold rolling plant has also expanded the capacity from 550'000 tons to 1.2 million tons with the installation of the cold rolling RAP (rolling, annealing and pickling) line. Avesta Polarit's expansion program will be completed when the hot rolling capacity reaches to 1.7 million tons which is going to start in the third quarter of 2004.
