In mid-January (January 11-20) this year, the average price in China of coking coal was recorded at RMB 1,180.0/mt ($181.5/mt), remaining stable, while the average price of second-grade metallurgical coke was recorded at RMB 2,092.0/mt ($326.9/mt), down RMB 113.2/mt ($17.7/mt), i.e., decreasing by 5.1 percent, both compared to prices in early January (January 1-10), as announced by China’s National Bureau of Statistics on January 24.
