Average finished steel prices in China soften in mid-May

In mid-May (May 11-20) this year, the average prices in China of 16-25 mm HRB 400 rebar, 6.5 mm HPB 300 wire rod, 20 mm Q235 common medium plates, 3 mm Q235 hot rolled sheet, 219 mm x 6 mm seamless pipe and 5 mm x 5 mm angles were recorded at RMB 3,242.9/mt ($529/mt), RMB 3,341/mt ($545/mt), RMB 3,494.3/mt ($570/mt), and RMB 3,490.5/mt ($569.4/mt), RMB 4,254.5/mt ($694/mt) and RMB 3,481.7/mt ($567.9/mt), down RMB 52.4/mt ($8.55/mt), RMB 45.8/mt ($7.47/mt), RMB 12.4/mt ($2/mt), RMB 18.2/mt ($2.97/mt), RMB 5.1/mt ($0.83/mt) and RMB 19.4/mt ($3.16/mt), indicating respective declines of 1.6 percent, 1.4 percent, 0.4 percent, 0.5 percent, 0.1 percent and 0.6 percent compared to prices in early May (May 1-10), as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics on May 26.
