Australia’s Newcastle port exports 3 million mt of coal in Sept

In the week ended October 1, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 3 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes an 18.7 percent increase compared to the previous week, following a week-on-week decrease of 13.8 percent recorded in the week ended September 24.

In September this year, Newcastle port exported 9.04 million mt of thermal and coking coal, below the port authority forecast of a total 10.9 million mt for the whole of September.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
