Russian steel producer Ashinskiy Metallurgical Works (Ashinskiy) has been forced to delay the installation of its new electric arc furnace (EAF-120), supplied by the Italian plantmakers Danieli and Techint, due to the current financial situation the mill is facing.

The new €100 million EAF-120, which will allow the mill to increase its steel production capacity to one million metric tons, had been scheduled to start its hot testing in April 2009. The mill has not given details of any new schedule for hot testing.

Moreover, in February Ashinskiy plans to recommission the furnaces at its open-hearth shop after repair works have been carried out.
