According to local news reports, ArcelorMittal plans to lay off 125 workers at its Conshohocken, Pennsylvania plant starting in April.

In September 2017, the company announced it was idling the rolling mill at the Conshohocken plant because of limited demand from customers that build bridges, ships, tank cars and military equipment and “the ongoing surge of unfairly traded imports of steel.”

Other plant operations, including steel finishing facilities, will continue operating, according to a company statement. Currently, the plant employs 265 people, and the layoffs will reportedly be implemented incrementally, starting with 17 workers in April.

The company told local media that the layoffs are temporary, and the rolling mill will be restarted once the market improves.

ArcelorMittal’s US operations have reported a net loss in five of the last six quarters. In the fourth quarter of 2017, the company reported a $38.9 million loss in the US.
