ArcelorMittal South Africa has declared force majeure notices to customers and suppliers amid the three-week national lockdown in the country.

“While the need for such action is clear and supported, it will result in further challenges over and above the effects of an already struggling economy and the economic impact of Covid-19 globally and locally,” the company said.

ArcelorMittal South Africa also cut salaries for all employees, starting from this month and for a period of three months, SteelOrbis understands. All staff are working from home apart from the staff for care and maintenance of the plants.
