ArcelorMittal releases its annual report for FY 2008

On July 20, Luxembourg-based steel giant ArcelorMittal released its annual report relating to the financial year 2008 of ArcelorMittal Finance S.C.A., as required by the Luxembourg Transparency Law of January 11, 2008.

As per its report filed to the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, in the fiscal year 2008 ArcelorMittal's sales increased by 18.7 percent to $124.936 billion, compared to the fiscal year 2007.

In the period in question, ArcelorMittal registered a net income of $9.399 million, down by 9.3 percent compared to the net income of the fiscal year 2007, while its operating income declined by 17.5 percent to $12.236 billion.

Meanwhile, the company's shipments decreased by 7.3 percent to 101.7 million mt in the fiscal year 2008.

With crude steel production of 103.3 million mt in the fiscal year 2008, representing around 10 percent of world steel output, approximately 36 percent of the company's steel is produced in the Americas, 49 percent is produced in Europe, and 15 percent is produced in other countries, such as Kazakhstan, South Africa and Ukraine.
