ArcelorMittal posts increased operating income for Brazil segment

ArcelorMittal saw the operating income for its Brazil segment rise 49.6 percent, year-on-year, to $398 million in Q4 2018, the company said this week while releasing its quarterly results.

ArcelorMittal said revenues at its Brazil segment rose to $2.4 billion in Q4, from $2.2 billion in the same quarter of 2017. Crude steel output at the Brazil segment was 3.1 million in Q4 2018, up from 2.9 million mt in Q4 2017, while steel sales volumes in Q4 reached 3.05 million mt, same as in Q4 2017.

Despite the increased revenues and higher operating income, ArcelorMittal’s Brazil segment saw its EBITDA in Q4 drop 17.8 percent, year-on-year, to $280 million.

ArcelorMittal’s Brazil segment reported average steel selling prices in Q4 stable at $687/mt, same as in Q4 2017.
