ArcelorMittal Poland has announced that it has decided to postpone the restart of the blast furnace at its Krakow plant.

The decision not to restart in the second half of March, as originally planned, results from the uncertainty amid the spreading of the Covid-19 virus in Europe and the unpredictable situation that lies ahead. The company pointed out that several customers are closing operations or reducing off-take.

“Taking into account the uncertainty we are faced with and the fact that we have no visibility regarding the impact of the transmission of Covid-19 in Europe, this is the only right decision to be taken. At the same time, I would like to underline that we are monitoring the developments closely and that we stand by our earlier declarations regarding the restart of the installations in Krakow when normalcy is restored,” said Marc De Pauw, CEO and chairman of ArcelorMittal Poland.
