ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Ostrava (AMTPO), the biggest producer of tubes and pipes in the Czech Republic, has announced that it cut its dust emissions by 85 metric tons in 2012, reducing its environmental footprint to a historic low of 584 metric tons - a third of the dust emissions 10 years ago when ArcelorMittal bought the plant.

If the European Commission approves the projects, ArcelorMittal Ostrava will make further environmental investments exceeding CZK 2.6 billion ($131 million) by 2015. According to the company, the largest portion of investments will go into high emission operations, the sinter plant and blast furnaces.

Over the past decade, ArcelorMittal Ostrava has invested more than CZK 4 billion in its environmental program, enabling the company to meet the emission limits required by Czech law. The majority of its facilities already meet the strictest EU limits based on the ‘best available technique', which will become binding from March 2016 onwards, the company added.
