ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih to increase billet output with two new concasters

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukrainian subsidiary of global steel giant ArcelorMittal, has announced that it is completing the preparations for the construction of its new continuous casting machines Nos. 2 and 3 and has selected Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group for the supply of the new equipment.

According to the company’s statement, it will start construction work on the main stage soon in parallel with selection and training of personnel. The company plans to start the hot tests of continuous casting machine No. 3 in the third quarter of 2018 and three months afterwards it intends to produce first billets at continuous casting machine No. 2. The final commissioning of the complex is planned for the first quarter of 2019.

Each of the new continuous casting machines will have an annual billet production capacity of 1.4 million mt and the company will invest more than $100 million for the project.
