On November 14, Lucia Morselli, CEO of ArcelorMittal Italia, informed labor unions at the company about the plans to halt the blast furnaces at the Taranto plant. Blast furnace No. 2 will be switched off on December 12, blast furnace No. 4 on December 30 and blast furnace No. 1 on January 15. Blast furnaces Nos. 3 and 5 are not operational. Rolling mill No. 2 will also be closed on November 26-28 due to lack of orders. Rolling mill No. 1 has already been stopped. The closure of the site's coking and power plants is also planned.

The workers' representatives asked whether the company intended to make declarations about layoffs, but ArcelorMittal postponed the discussion to the meeting that will be held today at the Italian Ministry of Economic Development with local unions.

Meanwhile, the former Ilva group's extraordinary commissioners are still expected to file an appeal stating that the legal conditions do not exist for the global steel giant to pull out of the takeover deal.
