Arcelor hikes steel prices

Luxembourg-based steel producer Arcelor has reportedly increased high carbon steel plate prices by 5-7% for the first quarter of 2005. The product is used mostly in automotive sector. The increase corresponds to an increase of €25-30 per ton in the price of hot rolled plates. Moreover, it is stated that the company will increase its carbon steel plate prices by 20-50% over 2004 prices this year. This product is used mostly in packaging sector.
