Arcelor and VAI to fund a stainless steel plant in Belgium

Europe's and world's largest steel producer Arcelor and Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI) of Austria agreed on a contract for the establishment of a stainless meltshop with an annual capacity of 1 million tonnes, on turn-key basis. This plant will be located in Belgium near to Carlam hot rolling mill and be operated by part of the flat stainless steel unit of Arcelor, namely Ugine&ALZ. Stainless steel plant which includes an EAF, a ladle heating station and a continuous slab caster is planned to launch production within almost two years.
