Arcelor and Bamesa to set up SSC in Romania
Luxembourg-based steel giant Arcelor announced plans to set up a steel service centre (SSC) in Romania with Spanish firm Bamesa. The new centre, 40 percent of which will be owned by Arcelor, will be located in the Topoloveni region, close to the Dacia (Renault group) plants that produce the Logan car, Arcelor stated. The new SSC will supply high-quality steels for specific applications in the automotive and domestic appliance industries. The two partners expect to invest Euro 30 million in the SSC till 2008. The SSC, the construction of which has already started, will be designed to have annual production capacity of 300,000 mts. The SSC will come on stream in the first half of 2007. Bamesa and Arcelor have already been working together for more than eight years. Their joint SSC in Turkey (Bamesa Çelik) is the leading centre in its market.
