Anglo American said it will commence cleanup works at a 529kmlong (328milelong) Minas-Rio pellet feed-transporting slurry pipeline, which was affected by two bursts in March.
The pipeline makes up the company’s Minas-Rio iron ore project, which aims to produce 26.5 million mt of the commodity per year.
Anglo American said the procedure aims to extract the so-called iron ore pulp from the pipes, allowing other equipment to perform a deeper inspection. The company said works should start this week, following an authorization from the country’s environmental regulator (IBAMA).
Anglo America has halted iron ore output and sales following the incidents in March, as reported by SteelOrbis.
