Alfa Acciai uses world’s first endless-rolling spooler line

Italian steelmaker Alfa Acciai launched endless-rolling operations with its spooler line designed for producing 8 to 16-mm diameter twist-free wound deformed bars in ultra-compact coils weighing up to three tons. The process is the first of its kind in the world. Daineli, the system's producer, says that the application marks a milestone in the history of long product rolling mills. The system employs a combination of Endless Welding Rolling (EWR) and a Spooler line. EWR provides uninterrupted production at the rolling mill via automatic on-line billet welding, while the Spooler line allows for twist-free winding of rebar in ultra-compact / ultra-heavy coils. The result is a unique, cobble-free uncoiling capability that enables coils to be directly fed to downstream cold processing lines.
