AK Tube and USW agree on labor contract

AK Steel Corporation has announced that members of the United Steelworkers of America (USW), Local 1915, have ratified a new labor agreement with 150 hourly production and maintenance workers at the company's Walbridge, Ohio tubemaking operation, AK Tube LLC. "We believe it's a good agreement for the employees and for AK Steel," said Vice President of public relations Alan McCoy in an interview with SteelOrbis today. The company says that the new three-year contract, ratified before the expiration date of the current contract, provides healthcare cost-sharing, wage increases, workforce flexibility, and a ratification bonus for its workers. The new contract will expire January 25, 2009. AK Tube LLC manufactures electric resistance welded carbon and stainless steel tubing for the automotive and truck exhaust markets. In addition to its Walbridge facility, AK Tube LLC operates another facility in Columbus, Indiana.
