AISI: US steel shipments in May up 4.1 percent from April

According to a July 16 report by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), for the month of May, US steel mills shipped 7,345,455 net tons, which reflects a 4.1 percent increase from the 7,057,660 net tons shipped April.  This further reflects a 71.6 percent increase from the 4,281,986 net tons shipped during the same period in 2009. 

A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 5 percent; cold rolled sheet, up 2 percent; and hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, up 0.5 percent.
