Italian plantmaker Automazioni Industriali Capitanio (AIC) has announced it has successfully accomplished the revamping of automation of electric arc furnace (EAF) No. 2 at Italian long steel producer Alfa Acciai based in Brescia. During the recent summer hiatus, AIC commissioned the complete revamping of automation at the EAF No. 2 with the main target being to replace obsolete machines. In its note, AIC stated, "Starting from the engineering phase in March, the project has been successfully accomplished within the time schedule thanks to the active and efficient collaboration between the customer and AIC's staff, both during the erection phase and software tests."

The new automation system provides an easier and safer management of all auxiliary machines of EAF No. 2 and this allowed an effective start-up of the meltshop without any stops for electric and automation reasons. Production during the first day of operations was completed to the full satisfaction of both Alfa Acciai and AIC.
